About the Jim Ovia Scholars Program 2016

The Jim Ovia Scholars Program is a scholarship scheme designed to assist outstanding youths in Nigeria with regard to their education. Started in 1998, the scheme is organised by the Jim Ovia Foundation. It is entirely funded by Mr. Jim Ovia, founder of Zenith Bank, and is intended to assist eligible undergraduate and graduate students cover tuition and maintenance expenses at their respective institutions.

An average of 100 awards is made every year under the Jim Ovia Scholars Program, which was in the past known as the MUSTE scholarship. These awards are renewable provided successful candidates meet the minimum requirements for that to happen. More than N100 million has supposedly been invested in the scheme by Mr. Ovia since October 2010 on some 1,500 beneficiaries.

Eligibility

The interesting thing here is that the Jim Ovia Scholars Program 2016 is said to be open to all undergraduate and graduate students who hold Nigerian citizenship. However, the fact that you are a student of Nigerian origin seems won’t be all you need to qualify for an award under this scheme. Personal intellectual ability and leadership capability of applicants will be considered in making the scholarship awards. The organisers also indicate that successful applicants will be selected based on displayed desire to make important contributions to the entire society and impact positively on the lives of other people.

The Agbami Medical and Engineering Professionals Scholarship Award programme is a brainchild of Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a Chevron company and operator of the Agbami Field. It is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility or ‘Social Investment’ geared towards supporting capacity building in the country. Under the scheme, a number of scholarship awards are made to qualified undergraduates from all states in Nigeria for study within the country. Funds for the Agbami Medical and Engineering Professionals Scholarship Award are made available by Star and its Agbami joint venture partners.

Eligibility

* You must be in your first or second year of study in university
* You must be a full-time student (no part-timers)
* You must be enrolled for any of the following under-listed programmes:

About the Scholarship

The NNPC/MPN Undergraduate Scholarship Awards 2015/2016 is part of efforts by Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), the operator of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and MPN Joint Venture, to boost educational development and human capacity building in Nigeria. The oil company says its affiliates have supported the education of thousands of Nigerian students as far back 1974 through diverse scholarship schemes. A total of 500 awards have supposedly been made annually since 1998 – significantly up from just 13 at inception in 1974.

Coverage and Eligibility

Undergraduate students from all states in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), currently enrolled in any university within the country will be considered for the NNPC/MPN Undergraduate Scholarship Awards 2015/2016. In addition, you need to meet the following eligibility conditions:

• Hold an SSCE certificate, or its equivalent, with a minimum of six subjects passed at a sitting
• Be an 100-level or 200-level undergraduate student admitted either during the 2014/2015 or 2013/2014 academic session
• Be enrolled for any of the following courses in your school:

– Petroleum Engineering
– Chemical Engineering
– Mechanical Engineering

What’s to know about Shell University Scholarship Award 2015?

This scholarship award scheme is open to first-year undergraduates in all universities in Nigeria, albeit the awards are often made when such students are already in the second year of study. Shell University Scholarship Award 2015 is the brainchild of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria Limited, operator of the NNPC/Shell/TEPN/Agip Joint Venture. Under the scheme, an annual grant is provided to successful applicants for the full duration of their undergraduate programme. The organisers wish to promote academic excellence and enhance skill levels of young people in Nigeria.

Shell University Scholarship Award 2015 is offered in two categories: National Merit Award and Areas of Operation Merit Award.

National Merit Award – This category is open to universities undergraduates that hail from any of the states in Nigeria.

Areas of Operation Merit Award – Only students who hail from Shell’s areas of operations are eligible to apply in this category. Eastern area of operation covers Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa (excluding Ekeremor and Sagbama LGA indigenes), Imo and Rivers. Bayelsa (Ekeremor and Sagbama LGAs) and Delta state indigenes are eligible for the Western area award.

Eligibility Requirements

You need meet the following requirements to be able to apply for Shell University Scholarship Award 2015:

• Be a Nigerian by citizenship and currently enrolled for an undergraduate or first-degree programme in an approved university anywhere within the country
• Admitted to a first-degree programme during the 2013/2014 academic session
• Possess O’ Level credit in at least seven subjects, including English Language and Mathematics
• Be a full-time undergraduate student with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 at the time of submitting your application

You need to have scanned copies of the following documents ready to submit your application:

– A recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant (i.e. jpeg format, not more than 200kilobytes);
– University or JAMB (UTME or D/E) Admission Letter;
– Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) Scores; ‘
– O’ Level Result(s); and ‘A’ Level /OND /NCE Result(s) as applicable; and
– Letter of Identification from State (showing Local Government) of Origin.

If you are applying for the Areas of Operation Merit Award, you also need scanned copies of letters of identification, (which must be duly stamped and signed) by:
