Samsung Galaxy Note 5 – Specs, Features, Availability and Price

Design and Display

The Galaxy Note 5 parades a sleek metal chassis fitting of a premium phone like it. Looking at the device you may see nothing but a larger Samsung Galaxy S6, with which it shares many things in common. Like the flagship smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is protected by rugged Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It flaunts a slim profile like the Galaxy S6, but not as slim as the other device at a thickness of 7.6 millimetres. The handset packs a massive 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a stunning Quad-HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. That amazing display boasts an awesome 518 pixels per inch offering users breathtaking clarity. You get an S Pen stylus with the Galaxy Note 5 as well.

Camera

Samsung provides this phablet with similar camera sensors as its current flagship phone, the S6. On the rear of Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a 16-megapixel shooter with LED flash, autofocus and optical image stabilisation as well as several other useful pictures such as face and smile detection, HDR and Dual Shot. The camera has up to 2K (2160p) video recording capability. It supports simultaneous HD video and image recording. Your selfie needs are taken care of by an impressive 5-megapixel snapper.

Performance and OS

Users should expect nothing but jaw-dropping performance from Samsung Galaxy Note 5 being equipped with the same octa-core Exynos 7420 processor found on the Galaxy S6. The heavy-duty processor, which has four cores pacing along at 1.5 GHz and another four at 2.1 GHz, is backed up in its heavy lifting by a very generous 4 GB of RAM – more than available on Samsung Galaxy S6. A Mali-T760 MP8 GPU chews through graphics. Operating platform is provided by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is covered with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

Additional Information

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be available in 32GB, 64GB and 128 GB storage versions. It also has a dual-SIM variant. Unfortunately, none of the models on which information is available for now has a microSD card slot for storage memory expansion. The phablet supports 4G LTE connectivity, which is to be expected particularly given its high price. Connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP, EDR and LE; microUSB 2.0, NFC, 3G and dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot. A non-removable Li-Polymer battery with 3000mAh capacity powers the phablet.

Pricing and Availability

It has been announced that Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be available in the U.S. from August 21, but availability in other markets isn’t known yet. It is expected to retail for about $700 to $800, depending on onboard storage capacity. At that rate, you should expect to pay a price in the range N135,000 to N160,000 in Nigeria to get your hand on one.
