Design

It is clear from the look of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active that it is not manufactured to appeal to the flashy. Its Korean maker has done away with the classy glass-and-metal design of the Galaxy S7 here. The phone instead sports a military-grade, plastic body pointing at a device built to take serious beating. It is protected on the front by sturdy, scratch-resistant glass which will supposedly not shatter or break when you drop the Galaxy S7 Active from a height of 5 feet. It boasts an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. You are not expected to have issues with the device even when you immerse it in up to 5-feet deep water for half an hour.

Display and Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active sports an amazing 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Expect super-sharp images with a very high pixel density of about 576 pixels per inch. On the camera front, it comes with a combo of 12-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel selfie cameras. This produces similar image quality as the original S7. You get Dual Pixel technology and 4K video recording capability in the package.

Hardware and Software

The Galaxy S7 Active does not look as attractive as the main Galaxy S7, but it does not mean that performance has been sacrificed as well. It is powered by the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU which is supported by ample 4 GB of RAM. The smartphone will be available in 32GB and 64GB variants. Onboard storage is expandable up to 200 GB using a microSD card. As would be expected, the high-end device boots Android 6.0 Marshmallow software.

Other Features

A major talking point about the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is the colossal 4,000mAh battery that it comes with. That juicer offers at least 400mAh extra capacity than both the original Galaxy S7 and its Edge variant. It is expected to deliver 36 hours of talk time and can reportedly be topped up in under two hours.

The smartphone has a fingerprint nestled in its Home button. The Active Key is available on the side to enable you launch apps more easily. The Galaxy S7 Active has a Knox security feature for an extra layer of protection.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will be sold by AT&T and those interested can get it via the American company’s online store. It will be offered on a monthly contract basis. The lump-sum payment comes to about $795, which is around $100 higher than what you pay for the regular Samsung Galaxy S7. You are looking at a price around N280,000 to lay your hands on a unit of the device.
