Believe it or not, Asian tech companies currently have a very strong stranglehold on the smartphone market. Just look around and count how many quality smartphone makers is located out of Asia – yet, more tech start-ups keep popping up from time to time on the continent.
ZTE is one of the Chinese tech manufacturers that have been churning out devices with specs that can only be found on high-end flagships from top makers, such as Apple and Samsung. The new ZTE Axon Lux is a case in point, with a metal design, a stunning Quad HD display, an octa-core processor and a very generous and rare 128 GB of internal storage, amongst other great features. It also has an amazing three biometric security options.
Design and Display
ZTE Axon Lux boasts a premium feel with a design featuring a nice mix of aluminium and plastic. It is protected by rugged, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The handset packs a stunning 5.5-inch TFT display, which means it is a phablet. The multi-touch screen has an amazing Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. That screen resolution gives you a pixel density of 534 pixels per inch – essentially meaning you have breathtaking display clarity here.
It has a duo camera setup of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors on the rear with an F1.8 wide lens aperture, dual LED flash, autofocus, CMOS image sensor and back-illuminated sensor (BSI). In simple terms, you will be able to take superb images with this beast, at least on paper. You can use the camera to record stunning 4K videos at 30 frames per second (fps). The selfie snapper does not disappoint either with an 8-megapixel sensor.
Power and Performance
ZTE Axon Lux looks configured to deliver mind-blowing performance with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor doing the heavy lifting under the hood. The 64-bit chip runs along at up to 2GHz processing speed and is accompanied on its mission by a laptop-like generous 4 GB of RAM. An Adreno 430 GPU chews through graphics. And for good measure, the phablet runs on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system – a near-stock version of the software which makes it faster to receive updates.
Sundry Specs and Features
Onboard storage allocation is a massive 128 GB! Did I hear you say wow? Yes, wow. This puts ZTE Axon Lux in a very exclusive class. In addition to the more than generous storage space, it is said that you will be able to add up to 128 GB more using a microSD card. The phablet is equipped with a non-removable 3000mAh battery, which offers up to 10 days of standby time.
ZTE Axon Lux comes with a fingerprint scanner, voice recognition software and an eye scanner for unequalled biometric security, with its maker describing the device as the world’s first smartphone that can be unlocked with three different biometric authentication solutions. The phone also features 4G LTE for blazing fast web surfing and downloading speeds.
ZTE Axon Lux Price and Availability
The Axon Lux is expected to launch in China at around $625, which is equal to around N125,000 price in Nigeria by current exchange rate. That price is lower that the amounts at which the highly-rated Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which this phablet matches or outdoes in several aspects, were launched. It is not clear yet if ZTE Axon Lux will later be available for sale outside of China.
