Lenovo Cast: A $49 Media Streaming Device

Chinese tech manufacturer Lenovo has just unveiled its maiden media streaming device. The new device is named Lenovo Cast and comes at a somewhat pocket-friendly price of $49, which works out to slightly less than N10,000 in Nigeria (based on prevailing exchange rate at this time).

Lenovo says its new Cast streaming device is designed to enable users to stream content wirelessly from the screen of their mobile devices direct to a larger screen, such as that of a high definition television. With the Lenovo Cast, the Chinese company wishes to remove the need for several people to huddle around a tiny screen to view media content such as holiday photos, movies and games.

The new Lenovo Cast is quite simple to use. You simply plug, link and play to enjoy a more pleasurable media viewing experience than what you may be able to get on your mobile device.

Your phone needs to have DLNA or Miracast feature to the able to use the Lenovo Cast to stream media. After plugging the tiny media streamer to the HDMI port of device with a large screen, DLNA or Miracast is used to link and play content.

The Lenovo Cast is compatible with the Google Cast standard for Chrome and Android. It equally supports DLNA or Miracast-enabled phones and tablets running on iOS and Window 8.1 platforms. The USB-powered Cast can be placed close to a large screen TV or in a dock attached to its back.

Scheduled to go on sale in August, the Lenovo Cast should be able to deliver better performance that the more affordable-priced Google Chromecast in that it boasts dual frequency Wi-Fi. Lenovo says the tiny streamer can transfer content over a distance of up to 20 meters and signals can even be sent through walls. © 2015 Frontier Theme
