Agriculture is a less-than-ideal occupation to many people, especially to graduates of higher institutions of learning, in Nigeria. Yet, it was reported earlier this year by Al-Jazeera that more than 55 percent of young people aged between 15 and 35 are without work. In the light of this, some of the discerning ones may see the free Leventis Foundation agricultural training as a good opportunity.
As maligned as agriculture appears to be, it surprising to learn that agriculture still remains the leading employer of labour in Nigeria. We have heard stories of how some people are doing well in different aspects of agriculture in the country. The government also seems to be interested in encouraging more people to go back to the land, judging by some of its policies.

About the Free Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training
According to Leventis Foundation, it has been organising agricultural training for young people and farmers since 1987. Its six schools are located in different ‘agro-ecological’ zones of the country. Precisely, they are in:
• Osun
• Kaduna
• Kano
• Gombe
• The Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
The Foundation says the training is sponsored by it, with financial assistance from ‘the respective State Governments.’ It aims to train young people in modern and sustainable agriculture, exposing them to different areas and available opportunities.
Applications are currently ongoing for the one-year free Leventis Foundation agricultural training. It has actually been on for weeks; I only just thought of sharing for those who are not aware and might be interested. Males and females can apply.
The Foundation takes care of tuition and boarding (accommodation), plus feeding, of selected candidates for the entire duration of the training, according to it.
Eligibility Conditions
If this sounds like an opportunity you don’t want to pass up, the following are the requirements to meet before applying, among others:
• You must be physically fit.
• You must be able to read and write in English – you may need to show that you have completed junior secondary school, at least.
• Your age must fall between 18 and 40 years.
• You need to display a perceivable interest in agriculture.
• You must pass both written and oral tests to be selected.
• You have extra advantage if you have farming background
How to Apply for Free Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training 2019/2020
You need to write an application (in your handwriting), demonstrating how you meet the foregoing requirements. In addition, you are to include the following when sending the letter:
• A letter signed by the chairman or secretary of your local government of origin, or an attestation letter written by a Justice of Peace (JP)
• Two (2) recent passport-size photographs
• Three references or referee letters
• Photocopies of your academic credentials or other relevant documents
