While not the cheapest 2-in-1 offering on the market, ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is an affordable, compact hybrid that looks rather too good for its price. The convertible, which is in the same hybrid line-up as the budget Transformer Book T90 Chi, parades a sleek, slim and lightweight design while offering a colourful display, long battery life and latest USB connectivity standard.
Affordable laptops are supposed to be easy to tell from their design – not the ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA. The convertible can afford to rub shoulders with a good number of high-end offerings on the market in terms of look. It flaunts a stylish brushed metal finish as well as faux-aluminium plastic interior. It is supposedly built to be scratch-resistant. Described as the lightest Flip device till date, the Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is both slimmer and lighter than many similar-sized convertibles, including the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 and the 11-inch version of the HP Pavilion x360 notebooks. A 360-degree hinge allows you flip the hybrid all the way back to use in multiple modes, including laptop and tablet.
ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA sports an 11.6-inch IPS display with a standard HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. While that screen resolution isn’t exactly anywhere near awesome, the display does promise better brightness levels than most of its rivals. It offers wide viewing angles of almost 180 degrees, making it a good fit for watching movies with friends – that is, if you can manage the small screen size. ASUS says the 10-point multi-touch display is highly sensitive to the slightest of touches, including the fingertips of a kid.
Performance and OS
It appears the ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is built with more emphasis on attracting the eye than producing robust performance. With a dual-core Intel Celeron N3050 processor in charge of affairs, you will do well to moderate your performance and multitasking expectations. The ample 4GB RAM that comes with the 1.6GHz CPU should enable you enjoy decent performance all the same. The 2-in-1 runs on the latest Windows 10 operating system for the best of hybrid user experience.
ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA packs a battery which is rated to last up to eight hours of use on a charge – Laptopmag says the battery lasted almost 11 hours in a test. It boasts the latest, reversible USB 3.1 Type-C port which enables you copy a 2GB movie onto a USB drive in less than two seconds! There are also USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and micro-HDMI ports for connectivity. The hybrid features latest wireless connectivity and 64GB eMMC storage as well as a microSD card reader.
At a price of $350 (which converts to around N70,000-N80,000 in Nigeria), ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP200SA may be considered a good deal. This is especially so when you consider its elegant, semi-premium design, long-lasting battery, Windows 10 OS and latest USB 3.1 Type-C port. But the choice of processor could have been better, however.
