Featuring a colourful design, the P5W is a new Android smartphone that was recently added to the global site of Gionee, with official release expected soon. The device, which looks like a budget offering, comes with a large HD display, an octa-core processor and in five vibrant colours.
Build and Screen
The Gionee P5W features a body made of polycarbonate, suggesting this will come at an affordable price. It has a dimension of 143.3 x 72 x 8.9 millimetres and weighs 153 grams. The smartphone will be made available in five colours: white, black, blue, red and yellow. It sports a 5-inch display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Based on IPS Oncell technology, the P5W looks to deliver decent wide-angle viewing.
Camera and Storage
In the camera department, the Gionee P5W will be equipped with a 5-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel selfie camera – this further confirms the phone will be a budget offering. The primary snapper features LED flash and autofocus. You get generous onboard storage of 16 GB, which will very likely be expandable using a microSD card.
Power and Performance
The Gionee P5W looks set to deliver decent performance with an octa-core MediaTek MT6735 processor running under the hood. To be realistic, you should not expect too much power from the device given its processor is clocked at a speed of 1.3 GHz and it comes with a paltry 1 GB of RAM. The smartphone will boot Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with Gionee’s Immersive UI skin, which is supposedly matched to device colour, on top of it. Juice needed to get the P5W running is supplied by a 2000mAh battery.
The phone supports dual-SIM dual-standby feature allowing simultaneous use of two SIM cards. Connectivity options include microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G and Wi-Fi. Quality sound appears to be on the bill with the provision of a speaker backed by DTS 3D surround sound technology.
Availability and Pricing
The Gionee P5W has only just been unveiled and is not yet available for sale. The official price has also not yet been revealed, but the specifications suggest lower midrange pricing. If this one doesn’t sound attractive enough, you may check out the ultra-slim Gionee Elife S6, which offers a bit more, albeit at an expectedly higher price.
