Taiwanese phone maker ASUS has taken the wraps off yet another variant of its hugely popular Zenfone 2. The new version is the Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition which shares the same specs with the second-generation phablet, but packs in four times more internal storage space.
Design and Display
ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition is superbly-crafted like the original Zenfone 2, which has been described as one of the best-looking devices from its maker to date. It comes in two design options: textured Carbon Night, similar to the main variant, and another with a polygonal rear. The handset sports the same 5.5-inch diagonal display with a Full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The touchscreen is protected by rugged Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Camera and Storage
The same robust camera combo found on the Zenfone 2 is also provided on this one. On the rear is a 13-megapixel shooter which makes image-capturing pure pleasure. Buyers also get a capable-looking 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and video chats. The talking point on ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition, however, is the amazing 256 GB of onboard storage capacity, which virtually eliminates recourse to a microSD card for more storage space. Interestingly, a microSD card slot that supports the use of up to 128GB card is retained, but I wonder why you will still want to use that.
Hardware and Software
ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition is armed with the same heavy-duty processor found on the Zenfone 2 – an Intel Atom Z3580 processor delivering speeds of up to 2.5 GHz. The 64-bit chip is assisted by an ample 4 GB of RAM, while a PowerVR G6430 graphics processor provides impressive graphics for gaming and movie watching. The operating platform for the Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition is provided by recent Android Lollipop, which has ASUS’ ZenUI skin laid on top of it.
Sundry Specs and Features
The same non-removable 3000mAh battery found on the Zenfone 2 supplies the juice here. ASUS’ BoostMaster battery technology delivers fast charging to enable you get 60 percent battery charge in just about 40 minutes. You can get up to four hours of battery life on a 10-minute charge. ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition, which allows you use two SIM cards at the same time, supports blazing-fast 4G LTE connectivity for awesome mobile browsing experience.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing information for ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition has not yet been released, but it is expected to go on sale in Brazil from next month. Given that the 32GB Zenfone 2 sold for about $430, this phablet may be considered a good deal if priced at less than $650.
