Acer Predator 8 is a Reasonably-Priced Gaming Tablet

First announced back in June, the Predator 8 was finally unveiled by Acer at the IFA 2015 in September. The Intel-powered tablet, which is also known as the Acer Predator 8 GT-810, is designed to offer users solid mobile gaming experience, with its humongous Full HD display, dependable GPU and other features. This one is among the best Android gaming devices currently available.

Design

The slate exhibits similar design as other devices in the Acer Predator range of gaming devices, featuring speaker grills on each corner of its body. The Acer Predator 8 is relatively portable at 8.7 millimetres and 350 grams, allowing you get your gaming dose on the road as well. The build looks solid and you can easily tell this is a gaming tablet with the soft-touch grip pads on the rear. This design promises gaming quality you will may not get on many mobile devices.

Awesome Gaming Beast

Acer Predator 8 crams in a massive 8-inch diagonal display, giving you generous screen estate for gaming. The experience is enhanced by the screen’s thin bezels and a resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels for a pixel density of approximately 283 ppi. You should get awesome viewing and great colours on this device. The powerful Predator Quadro – the four speakers at the corners – promises amazing surround sound. The ‘audiodacious’ device is the loudest gaming tablet on the planet, according to Acer. The Predator TacSense technology ensures impressive tactile feedback on the screen when playing games.

Hardware and OS

A gaming beast like the Predator 8 requires a solid processor to do the heavy lifting. For that purpose, latest Intel Atom X7 Z8700 processor – same one used on Microsoft Surface 3 – is provided. The quad-core, 64-bit chip is assisted in its task by RAM of 2GB capacity. Onboard storage is either 32 GB or 64 GB, expandable by up to 128 GB using a microSD card. Graphics is crunched by a reliable Intel HD Graphics Gen-8-LP GPU. Acer Predator 8 will boot recent Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.

Sundry Specs and Features

The gaming tablet has its maker’s Predator MediaMaster feature which tunes the four powerful front-facing speakers and screen settings to suit different scenarios – gaming, movie-watching or any other. It features a 5-megapixel main camera with autofocus and a 2-megapixel selfie camera. Connectivity features include microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n 5 5GHz.

Pricing and Availability

With prices starting at $299, Acer Predator 8 is a great value for money, especially for gamers. That price converts to around N60,000 in Nigeria. According to CNET, the slate is to go on sale in North America from November 6, starting with Newegg. There is no information on international availability yet.
